Earth Hour 2011: Help spread the word

by Simon Collister in News Google+

Earth Hour is taking place this Saturday, 26th March, at 8:30pm local time. It’s a global event that sees communities, businesses and iconic buildings switch off all of their lights for an hour, making a statement to the world’s governments for more urgent and effective action on climate change.

We’re working with WWF again this year to get online communities talking about Earth Hour, encouraging others to sign-up or ‘Like’ the Facebook Page to show their support and send a clear message that climate change needs to be addressed.

Last year, hundreds of millions of people across a record 128 different countries and territories took part, and this year the WWF have set their sights even higher. Topping last year’s awesome results will be no mean feat; but with enough support, we’re confident it’s one we can achieve.

So, if you have a blog, a Twitter account or are on Facebook it would be fantastic if you could write a post, share a tweet or donate a status update about Earth Hour. Even better, ask your readers, friends, families and colleagues to get involved as well.

If you’re keen to do more, then WWF have come up with a number of online resources to help you spread the word, including:

As if that lot wasn’t enough there are a load more ways to share content and help show your support.

Earth Hour is, at heart, a collective effort and every contribution really is vital (even re-tweeting this post), so please join in and show your support.

The more signups and ‘Likes’ we get, the more we can demonstrate to governments around the world the strength of our shared voice on this urgent matter.

Im so glad that South Africa is jumping on the bandwagon….Earth Hour is still growing in South Africa and definately not as big as it should be!! The Soweto Gospel Choir are perfect ambassadors and I hope they instill passion in my fellow South Africans….Another amazing way to start saving our precious environment is to use environment friendly insulation in our homes. Visit http://www.eco-insulation.co.za, they are the local experts. I hope that international companies also leave comments with their details, as this is a great way to help the environment flourish.

i am going to take part in this event) it won’t cost much for one person and won’t give back a lot from just one person… but together we can change the world!
