Thanks a lot Evert.

I think the learnings that results from the Starbucks campaign could be quite beneficial not just for them, but for all of us. How best to run a nationwide (US) Foursquare marketing campaign across so many outlets was uncharted territory. I think the industry as a whole stands to gain.

There's an excellent whitepaper download from Palo Alto Networks, “To Block or Not. Is that the question?” here: http://bit.ly/d2NZRp. It has lots of insightful and useful information about identifying and controlling Enterprise 2.0 apps (Facebook, Twitter, Skype, AIM, etc). Enjoy!

What keeps bothering me is the occasional opportunistic approach of brands like Starbucks; reminds me of the 'glory days' of Second Life: put some coins in a new emerging technology (with no more than a few thousend active users) and 'do some PR'... Right...
The $1 discount on Frappuccinos is just a way of 'cheap' (??) advertising, or better, a learning for a (Star) buck. I totally agree with Augie Ray for calling it both ‘noisy and bothersome’, and potentially damaging in the long term.

I personally believe in this set of unstructions before(!) starting any social media strategy based on branding: http://www.vue-royale.nl/comments/10_essential_...

Still a good mashup again this week guys!
