Thanks for the comment Guy.

In saying 'damage done', I was referring more to the fact that deleting the Tweet didn't make the problem go away, rather than suggesting damage was done to the Vodafone brand in any lasting way. To be honest, I think Vodafone comms handled the situation smoothly and quickly, and aren't likely to be tarnished by it in the slightest.

Alas, Vodafone and that tweet. I read it and laughed. I read it and went OMG. I read it and thought, there but for the grace of god go I. I then read something else.

Silly moment, most definitely. Offensive, yes. Damage done, perhaps. But let's not over react to these sorts of things. Perhaps the scale of the damage is sometimes greater in our minds, so let's be careful not to amplify. Today's Vodafone was yesterday's United Arilines, Eurostar, Skittle's homepage and tomorrow's headline will be..?

They're all great cases studies, but isn't social media all about being human as well. But then human nature likes a good story.

Not 100% sure about Facebook webmail. It's a question of utility - with fully integrated gmail accounts in the hands of the tech-savvy, would you necessarily need a second email account through @facebook.com any apparent reason? Then again, you could likely snag quite a few of the younger folks. When you can create a page about Onion rings and Justin Bieber and generate 2 million+ fans, just about anything can catch on...
